It is estimated that over 11,000 centers for drug and alcohol rehabilitation exist in the United States. Although many of these facilities have failed to do the job they claim, many prove to be valuable resources for people who are drug and alcohol addicted. If the program is one in which the staff truly believes in their patients, the benefits can be invaluable. In addition, a variety of treatment options ranging from detoxification to counseling to spirituality to health are important for rehab centers. Programs should be long enough to actually execute the service that they strive to provide. Harmony Place has a 28-day drug and alcohol rehab program, for women only, led by a dedicated staff. Through a holistic approach of detoxification, healing and sobriety, they have been able to help many women who have come for treatment.

The idea of entering a rehab center to seek recovery from drug abuse or alcoholism can be an overwhelming concept. For the addict or alcoholic struggling with the problem, the facilitation of even investigating recovery options is often completely compromised by their own substance abuse. For a friend or family member, the choices available now on the internet are daunting and confusing. How does one know what will prove the right “fit?” What will be the financial obligation involved? The complicated logistics of choosing a rehab center in general too often first impedes, then implodes the recovery process. As of yet, there is no “Fodor’s Guide” to rehab. Pages and pages of websites all promise that they are the best and most successful rehab center, but without empirical data or firsthand testimony from a rehab center alumni, it is intimidating at best to finally choose the best rehab center for an individual.

For anyone seeking recovery through admission to a rehab center for themselves or one they love, the important thing to remember is that there are indeed many choices available Thus, as the “buyer,” you have the power . Don’t compromise on the choice and don’t feel pressured to admit to any rehab center that does not feel like a positive “fit.” Ask as many questions from the admissions counselor as you like and if they do not appear to have the patience to facilitate your inquiries completely, then it stands to reason that the program is pretty much the same in its tone. Request copies of current program schedules and staff information so that when you do make the final decision, you know as much as possible about the rehab center, its modality of treatment, program options and staff.
Finally, when choosing a rehab center for yourself or someone you love who struggles with alcohol dependency or drug abuse, try to keep your notes organized and don’t delay. Too often, those seeking recovery resources spend days, weeks or even months “researching” for the best rehab center, become completely overwhelmed and never end up actually ever committing to admitting into a program. In such cases the consequences are invariably dire. Choose a realistic admission date and stick to it. Only then can the miracle of change occur.
