Drug Treatment Programs Are Big News Lately
With the never ending saga of Charlie Sheen’s addiction and recovery process the news has been bombarded with information regarding drug treatment programs and their success rate for Hollywood stars. With other stars such as Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and even some of our favored Disney Channel stars have been rumored to be struggling with the spotlight addictions. Admitting it is a bit depressing to watch some of our favored stars succumb to multiple losses to addiction as it brings a bit of concern to the success rate for some of these drug or alcohol rehabilitation centers.
Sheen has had multiple bouts with addiction, all publicly displayed for all of his fans and foes alike to watch. Most recently was his fall out which resulted in his own “in home treatment” program as he now promises to be 100% clean off drugs. Sheen claims that the turning point towards full recovery was simply making the choice to be clean. Once he made that choice he learned to be high on him, and that there was nothing better. This is all according to an ABC News Exclusive where Sheen praised recovery, but also seemed to mock other drug treatment programs in a far from classy manner.
Sheen deserves a great deal of praise if he truly is sober and has won the battle against addiction no matter how he achieves his success. He should also receive praise even if he relapses because making the decision to become clean is an amazing step. Rehabilitation is a different art for everyone as the alcohol treatment women require differs from that of men. Broken down even more you can separate individuals by personality types, drug of choice, locality, lifestyle to only name a few. When the time is right and the road to recovery is paved ahead, it is vital to make sure the treatment program chosen is the right one for that specific individual. Success is more likely when the participant is actively involved in the program, but that is not the only road to recovery! The participant must feel they can nurture personal insight and have the opportunity for interpretation and exploration for alternative lifestyle options.
When life is a mess, and we must turn to self-induced trip from reality it must feel impossible to life any other way. Sometimes traumatic events lead us to find solace in substances and then having to make the decision to give up the only thing we think heals our pain can feel like death. Everywhere we turn every show we watch, news channel or news headline seems to celebrate addiction as they plaster it for strangers to partake. Addiction is a disease and it is one that leaves you feeling helpless and hopeless. The idea of living without the drug or alcohol may feel impossible, or maybe one day you say it is time to make a change but a few hours later you are succumbed by the addiction and your moment of enlightenment has passed. There is a resolution, as scary and intimidating as it may seem now, life can go on differently, and the addiction can be cured.
Maybe Charlie Sheen is not going about recovery in the traditional sense, but he is taking that important step to a drug and alcohol free life. Hopefully his “in home rehabilitation” takes him on a long and prosperous journey living substance free. The fact of the matter is that if Charlie Sheen can become 100% clean and feel great about it, anyone can! That includes you!
