Cocaine Addiction is not a Male-Exclusive Problem
Studies have shown that women are less likely to use cocaine than men. A Canadian survey, for example, had 0.5 percent of females report the use of this drug compared to 0.8 percent of males, which means that men are 60 percent more likely to abuse the illegal drug.
However, another survey indicated that women are less likely to report that they had undertaken treatment for this drug, also known as ‘blow’ or ‘C.’ And a study done by the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration revealed that 5.4 percent of women aged 18 to 25 admit to have taken this stimulant and appetite suppressant.
Research has shown that women may be more sensitive to cocaine’s acute cardiovascular effects. The drug has also proven capable of disrupting menstrual cycles and affecting fertility, aside from inducing heightened feelings of restlessness, irritability, and anxiety. Such problems warrant the best cocaine rehabilitation services available, and we at Harmony Place believe that we run one of the few gender-specific treatment centers that can best provide women with the means to recover.
Our experience has allowed us to recognize that addiction to C and other dangerous substances often stems from mental or emotional issues that are not immediately evident. Therefore, we strive to identify and treat both the outward symptoms of cocaine addiction and any deep-seated, unhealthy behavioral patterns and maladaptive thought processes that serve as the cause for this addiction.
Our treatment philosophy is put into action through individual and family therapy, small peer process groups, and other specialized classes. We take great pride in offering our guests a more solid physical, mental, and spiritual base from which they can start their own personal journey to lifelong healing.
