Awakenings: Women Services & Treatment Los Angeles
Individuals with addictions often suffer a loss of self. Frequently, they attempt to relieve the loss or heal a trauma with their addiction.
In so doing, they continue to be re-traumatized through their substance abuse/dependency. In the Awakenings Group (part of our women’s rehab program), our women are provided with a cohesive and safe environment where the process of healing trauma begins. The craving of addiction is replaced with a quest for wholeness. They are guided on a journey through their pain and into healing. A licensed clinician trained to work with trauma issues facilitates the group.
The Purpose-Full Group
Historically, women lack a sense of personal power. They enter treatment with a myriad of social, relational and emotional factors that can compromise their personal stabilization and often believe that they are ineffectual at managing such matters. They are introduced to the12-Step program, which immediately tells them they are “powerless.” They may feel defeated. The Purpose-Full Group is designed to focus on the hurdles that are placed in women’s paths and thus interfere with their productive development in sobriety. Women may struggle with issues of self-image, divorce, lack of leisure interests, parenting, nutrition, time management, spending or career identification, just to name a few. A licensed clinician creates a safe setting for our clients to engage in an honest inventory of their personal threats to healthy stabilization.
Rites of Passage
The struggle with addiction often lures individuals away from their own inherent value system. Women lose sight of their intentions for positive change and their spiritual condition is often rendered bankrupt. The Rites of Passage Group utilizes ritualised behaviors to teach women how to release their past addicted life and make room to welcome sobriety. It invites our women to discover their core self and leads them out from the darkness of addiction to bask in the light of recovery. They begin a spiritual practice that connects them with the natural world and they learn to both thread their spiritual essence through all facets of life and tailor their recovery in service to themselves.
The TAO of Wellness Group
A combination of specific acupuncture points and Eastern healing meditations are utilized to clear and center the spirit, inducing optimal relaxation and increased feelings of wellness.
Somatic Experience
The body (or soma) is a sacred vessel for learning in our lifetime. When we experience pain, addiction or emotional trauma, our bodies develop patterns of physical and emotional “holding.” We become stuck, frozen and trapped in old ways of thinking and moving. Pain hijacks the body and assumes residence. Somatic exploration helps identify habitual patterns of body/mind behavior. Our clients learn how to adopt new choices for acting and moving. Through movement and visualization they begin to feel whole and fully connected with themselves. The potential for growth and healing becomes real. The unexpected manifestation of a changed life suddenly becomes a phenomenal reality.
Pilates and Recovery
Embodiment is empowerment. Thoughts and actions are shaped by posture, sense of strength and connectedness. Through Pilates breathing and movement exercises, we can vitalise our capacity for clear and aligned movement and therefore action. The whole being can reorganize and realign around a supple and awakened core. Wellness results through building a solid, adaptable moving body and discovering the ability to be “in the moment.”
